What are the impacts and hazards of climate change
Global sea level rise:
Due to global warming, the global sea level has risen by 10-20 cm in the past 100 years. If the sea level rises by more than 1 meter, some island countries, such as the Maldives, will be submerged. In its 2007 report, the IPCC predicted that the global sea level will rise by 18-59 cm by 2100.
Frequent extreme weather events:
Global warming has increased precipitation in continental regions, especially in mid- and high-latitude regions, and decreased precipitation in some regions such as Africa. Increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather and climate events (El Niño, drought, floods, thunderstorms, hail, storms, high temperature weather, sandstorms, etc.)
Melting glaciers at the poles:
Regional warming in the Arctic is one to three times higher than the global average. Scientists predict that as early as 2030, the Arctic Ocean will usher in its first ice-free summer. The same situation happened in Antarctica. If all the polar ice caps melt away, it will cause global sea levels to rise by about 70 meters.
Extinction of a large number of species:
A British study showed that the four extinctions in the history of the earth were all related to the greenhouse effect. If global warming continues to intensify, it will cause the extinction of half of the planet’s species. The first to bear the brunt will be the polar bears. The only 20,000 polar bears in the world are expected to become extinct in 2050.
Loss of fresh water resources:
If the ice caps on the world's major mountain ranges continue to fade, the residents below the mountain will face a crisis of freshwater resources. Among them, the river basin originating from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau affects one-third of the world's population. In addition, the "Equatorial Snow Peak" of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa will also disappear within 10 years.
Global temperature changes directly affect the global water cycle, causing abnormal droughts or floods in certain areas, resulting in reduced crop yields, and excessive temperatures are not conducive to seed growth.
A warming climate will cause tropical diseases such as West Nile virus, malaria, and yellow fever to spread to colder areas. In addition, rising global temperatures have melted the Arctic ice, and the deadly prehistoric virus that has been frozen for more than 100,000 years may reappear, causing the world to fall into panic
